I'll let you in on a little industry secret.
While liquid wax and sealant formulas are constantly evolving, most paste wax formulas in the marketplace are a decade and sometimes multiple decades old. There are a number of reasons for this. First, today's market is primarily driven by liquid products. There's little demand for state-of-the-art paste waxes. Secondly, making a paste wax even slightly "better" is part science, part art and incredibly time and labor intensive. I can't tell you how many times I've melted carnauba in a kettle on the stove, blended in a new ingredient and ended up with mush! Polymers
that do wonders in liquid waxes behave totally different when added to a hot-poured, paste wax. It takes a mind-numbing number of sample pourings, testings and evaluations every time you change a single ingredient in a paste wax formula. Since there's little or no financial incentive to make a paste wax "better" most paste wax manufacturers will accept a formula that can be duplicated over and over with uniform and consistent results. That formula is then "frozen in time."
Where I'm going with this is that there are a handful of us "old timers" that are driven to create a better car wax. We know it will never make us rich. We do if for the same reason a chef constantly strives to improve his signature dish, passion, pure passion.
In 2006, I introduced BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond Ivory Carnuaba Paste Wax which I designed to be used on top of any of the newer, super-slick, polymer sealants. Applying two coats of wax over a polymer sealant created rippling wetness over a laser-crisp shine. I called it a Wet-Ice over Fire shine.
BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax is an evolution of that wax. While it is "better", in fact, I feel it's the best paste wax I've ever made, the differences between Midnight Sun and last year's Wet Diamond Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax are fine refinements. Midnight Sun Paste Wax is noticeably "harder". It's harder because we packed in more Carnauba. To maximize the dark, seductive shine that only carnauba can produce, a characteristic called "jetting" within the industry, we pushed the Carnauba content right to the limit. If we put in more, you wouldn't be able to spread it. It would be a rock! Midnight Sun still wipes on and buffs off easily but you can no longer press your finger into the wax. This added Carnauba translates to a deeper, darker shine especially on vehicles with dark color paints. I still like this wax best when it's applied on top of a sealant like BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection but the deep shine needs no apology when it's used by itself as a final wax. The additional Carnauba also makes Midnight Sun Paste Wax "wetter". The shine ripples a little more as you walk around the vehicle giving the illusion that the finish is under water.
Bottom line, if you're currently using Wet Diamond Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax, don't despair. These refinements are "tweakings" of a great formula. If you're currently using another brand of paste wax, I encourage you to try BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax. Give your car two coats.

Clean your car's lugnuts faster, easier and better!
When two Porsche enthusiasts and admitted "geeks" living and working in the high-tech world of Silicon Valley, California got tired of using cotton swabs, greasy rags and chemicals to clean their car's wheels, they decided to do something about it. The two friends pooled their talents and after several designs and prototypes, created the Lugnut Brush.
Made of space-age, polymer bristles imported from Italy, the tips are "feathered" to eliminate scratches. The brushes are handcrafted using precision CNC controlled machines in the Silicon Valley. These are not gimmicks. These brushes are well thought out, precision tools that are made to last. They reach deep into wheel openings and scrub both the opening and the lugnut. Normally, I'm too lazy to drag out my cordless drill so I use the brush with a handle. Rotating the brush in my hand and swishing it around each lugnut opening does an excellent job. I also use it to clean the narrow slots in my Mercedes wheels. This takes a little longer by hand. I usually have to do the slots at least twice to get all the brake dust out. Lately, I've started using the brush with my cordless drill. Hands down it cleans better job and cleans faster than trying to do it by hand. It also does my wheel's slots in one pass. Since I have my bucket of sudsy water and my cordless drill already out, I take an extra few minutes to use a BLACKFIRE Power Stick to clean the backs of the wheels and then use the Lugnut brush to clean the lugnut openings and lugnuts.
If you don't own a cordless drill or if you don't see yourself using a drill to clean your wheels, get the Lugnut brush with the handle. You'll love it. If your fussy or if you are fanatical about the way your car's wheels look get the brush with the 3/8 shank and use your cordless drill. Or, if it won't break your piggy bank get both brushes and use the one that fits your mood! Both are highly recommended.

Since I have my bucket of sudsy water and my cordless drill already out, I take an extra few minutes to use a BLACKFIRE Power Stick to clean the backs of the wheels and then use the Lugnut brush to clean the lugnut openings and lugnuts.
If you don't own a cordless drill or if you don't see yourself using a drill to clean your wheels, get the Lugnut brush with the handle. You'll love it. If your fussy or if you are fanatical about the way your car's wheels look get the brush with the 3/8 shank and use your cordless drill. Or, if it won't break your piggy bank get both brushes and use the one that fits your mood! Both are highly recommended.
