View Full Version : Car alarm or not?
Not sure if anyone has brought this up, but do we really need an aftermarket alarm? I thinking about getting one because I can open my trunk without the factory alarm going off. I can jack up my car and take off the rims without a honk. I realized I can get jacked . Clifford and Viper are both made from Directed, and Compustar is plagued with problems. I'm just wondering which ones would you guys get? I'm leaning towards a Clifford due to price. Ultimate Electronics only carries Clifford. Best Buy is charging an arm and a leg for the Viper. Which would you choose?

Viper...
But you shouldn't be able to open the trunk without the alarm going off. Heck you cant even open the hood without the alarm going off. We have a pretty nice stock alarm system. Sure there is no sense o shock or anything but its nice. If you want remote start then yes, if you want the other nice features of the alarm then get it... but if you expect it to really protect your car then don't bother.
I am going to be 100% honest with you, i've seen TONS of cars broken into with the highest best level viper alarm system and it didn't do anything. If they want your car they will get it... at that point your paying to think your safe... but really just wasting your money. Invest in a garage if you don't have one, and park your car in smart places, nothing more you can do.

what do you mean the compustar is full of problems? Had one in my integra and it was great. loved every part of it.
Some of my buddies had a remote problem for what they told me.

DEI all the way!!!! (Viper or Python, both the same) i wouldn't use anything else. i sold them for 5 years at my last job, had 2 problems ever with them. yet we fixed literally dozens and dozens of other brands, or straight up replaced them with the Viper unit. some installer error from different shops, but at least half were malfunctioning units. the past 3yrs i've been using Python, Vipers brother... and same thing, ZERO issues as of yet. i'm completley happy and impressed with the Viper/Python lineup. good range on the 2way remotes as well.
and you can turn the lock/unlock "chirp" OFF on just about any good alarm. so it doesn't have the gay sound only a honda should have according to 1hotlex... :)
